CENTRE FIRE DEPARTMENT
We are primarily a volunteer department, with the exception of the chief. Our members give freely of their time to provide emergency services to the citizens and the surrounding areas. Volunteer firefighters come in to train, run calls, perform truck maintenance, teach fire safety to our kids, and many other tasks.
About the Centre Volunteer Fire Department
We are a combination fire department with a paid chief and maintain a roster of 25 volunteers. We provide an “all-hazards” response to the citizens of Centre and the surrounding areas of Cherokee County. We maintain automatic aid agreements to assist with calls in the areas surrounding Centre. We have been assigned a Class 4 ISO hazard rating. We also provide fire and life safety education to the schools located within the city limits and various other organizations with our three Public Fire and Life Safety Educators.

Training
Our volunteers attend training every Monday night. They also take time to attend additional training as they are offered. Half of the firefighters are fully certified volunteer firefighters and hazardous materials first responders. Our goal is to reach 100% volunteer certification, which requires 160 hours of training, plus continuing education hours each year.
